Biographie
James Oliver Cromwell est un acteur de cinéma et de télévision américain, probablement mieux connu pour son rôle de Dr Zefram Cochrane dans Star Trek : First Contact. Il a été nominé pour un Oscar, trois Emmy Awards et quatre Screen Actors Guild Awards au cours de sa carrière. Cromwell est né à Los Angeles, Californie et a grandi à Manhattan, New York. Il a été adopté par l'actrice Kay Johnson et l'acteur, réalisateur et producteur John Cromwell, qui a été mis sur liste noire à l'époque de McCarthy. Il a fait ses études à la Hill School, au Middlebury College et au Carnegie Institute of Technology (aujourd'hui l'Université Carnegie Mellon), où il a étudié l'ingénierie. Comme ses deux parents, il a été attiré par le théâtre, faisant tout, de Shakespeare aux pièces expérimentales. Il défend depuis longtemps des causes de gauche. Dans une interview accordée en octobre 2008, il a fortement attaqué le Parti républicain et l'administration de George W. Bush, affirmant que leur politique étrangère controversée "nous détruirait ou détruirait la planète entière". Il est devenu végétarien en 1974 après avoir vu un parc à bestiaux au Texas et vécu "l'odeur, la terreur et l'anxiété". Il est devenu un végétalien éthique en jouant le personnage de Farmer Hoggett dans le film Babe en 1995. Il s'exprime fréquemment sur des questions concernant la cruauté envers les animaux pour PETA, principalement le traitement des porcs. Cromwell a été marié à Anne Ulvestad de 1976 à 1986. Ils ont eu trois enfants. Il a épousé sa deuxième femme, Julie Cobb, le 29 mai 1986.
