James Cameron, né le 16 août 1954 à Kapuskasing, Canada, est un réalisateur, scénariste, producteur et explorateur des fonds marins canadien, résidant en Nouvelle-Zélande. Il est connu pour avoir réalisé et écrit des films emblématiques tels que "Terminator" (1984), "Aliens, le retour" (1986), "Abyss" (1989), "Terminator 2 : Le Jugement dernier" (1991), "True Lies" (1994), "Titanic" (1997), "Avatar" (2009) et "Avatar : La Voie de l'eau" (2022). En 1997, avec "Titanic", un film sur le naufrage de 1912, Cameron établit un record. Ce film reste le plus grand succès du box-office mondial pendant onze ans et reçoit l'Oscar du meilleur film en 1998, tandis que Cameron lui-même obtient l'Oscar du meilleur réalisateur. Le film remporte également neuf autres Oscars. Le budget du film s'élevait à environ 200 millions de dollars. Il surpasse son propre record en 2009 avec "Avatar", un film de science-fiction dont le budget est estimé à près de 400 millions de dollars. "Avatar" dépasse "Titanic" en devenant le plus grand succès du box-office mondial en 2010, générant un total de 2,78 milliards de dollars de recettes. Cameron, en tant que producteur et réalisateur, gagne environ 260 millions de dollars grâce à ce film. Suite à ce succès phénoménal, Cameron annonce rapidement la production d'une trilogie.
