Mariah Carey, née le 27 mars 1969 à Huntington (Long Island, État de New York), est une auteure-compositrice-interprète, actrice et femme d'affaires américaine. Elle est révélée en 1990 par son premier album Mariah Carey, duquel sont issus quatre singles en première place du Billboard: Vision of Love, Love Takes Time, Someday et I Don't Wanna Cry. Il se vend à quinze millions d'exemplaires dans le monde. Après plusieurs albums certifiés platine tels que Emotions (1991), MTV Unplugged (1992), Music Box (1993) et de nombreux singles classés à la première place, elle sort en 1994 son album de Noël, Merry Christmas. Constitué de chants traditionnels et agrémenté du single All I Want for Christmas Is You, il se vend à quinze millions d'exemplaires dans le monde, devient l'un des albums de Noël les plus vendus de tous les temps et érige le single comme un hymne de ces festivités pour les décennies suivantes. En 1995, elle publie l'album Daydream, qui contient Fantasy, One Sweet Day en duo avec le groupe Boyz II Men et Always Be My Baby. Le premier titre devient la seconde meilleure vente de singles de l'année aux États-Unis. Quant au deuxième, il reste pendant seize semaines à la tête du Billboard, ce qui constitue alors un record, égalé en 2017 par la chanson Despacito et battu en 2019 par Old Town Road. L'album est un succès mondial avec trente et un millions d'exemplaires vendus et fait de Mariah Carey l'une des plus grandes vendeuses d'albums du label Columbia. En 1997, elle publie Butterfly, album qui marque son évolution musicale. Il engendre deux no 1 dans son pays: Honey et My All. En 1998, elle sort une compilation appelée #1'S, contenant tous ses numéros un et quelques inédits dont When You Believe en duo avec Whitney Houston, qui est la bande originale du film Le Prince d'Égypte. Ce titre obtient une récompense pour la meilleure chanson originale lors de la 71e cérémonie des Oscars. La même année, elle apparaît aux côtés de Céline Dion, Aretha Franklin, Gloria Estefan et Shania Twain, lors du concert caritatif Divas Live 1998. Avec l'album Rainbow en 1999, elle obtient deux nouveaux no 1 dans son pays: Heartbreaker et Thank God I Found You. ...
